Usability of spent Salvia officinalis as a low-cost adsorbent in the removal of toxic dyes: waste assessment and circular economy

چکیده

The removal of methylene blue (MB) and maxilon yellow (MY) dyes from aqueous solutions was investigated by an adsorption process using spent Salvia officinalis (SSO) for the first time. operating conditions mechanisms MB-SSO MY-SSO systems were determined. FTIR-ATR SEM-EDAX analyses also performed to characterise adsorbent. Optimum in each system similarly obtained, excluding pH (5.7 MB 6.5 MY). dye efficiency 78% 56% MY. It observed that experimental data fits Freundlich isotherm (R2 ≈ 0.97) pseudo-second-order kinetic 0.99) model both systems. maximum capacities SSO MY determined as 16.53 11.79 mg g−1, respectively. revealed affected a number active sites on adsorbent concentration dye. thermodynamic parameters confirmed spontaneous, exothermic physisorption results indicate can be used promising material solutions. However, order remove high concentrations, must activated.

Column operation studies for the removal of dyes and phenols using a low cost adsorbent

Fertilizer plant waste carbon slurry has been investigated after some processing as an adsorbent for the removal of dyes and phenols using columns. The results show that the carbonaceous adsorbent prepared from carbon slurry being porous and having appreciable surface area (380 m2/g) can remove dyes both cationic (meldola blue, methylene blue, chrysoidine G, crystal violet) as well a...

Spent Tea Leaves as a Potential Low-cost Adsorbent for the Removal of Azo Dyes from Wastewater

Spent tea leaves (STL), a solid waste that is available in large amounts worldwide, was investigated as a potential low-cost adsorbent for the removal of two azo dyes, Reactive Green 19 (RG19) and Reactive Violet 5 (RV5), from contaminated waters. Preliminary experiments conducted on untreated STL showed that this material exhibited very low removal efficiencies (<10 %). By contrast, thermal ac...

Coal Ash as a Low Cost Adsorbent for the Removal of Xylenol Orange from Aqueous Solution

The removal ofxylenol orange from aqueous solution onto the coal ash was investigated at room temperature. The results show that the adsorption capacity of xylenol orange increased as the adsorption time increased and then equilibrium established after 30 min adsorption time. The results obtained revealed that the coal ash removed about 80 % of xylenol orange from the aqueous solution withi...
